E.M.D.R. Skills Training:
Effective Techniques for Anxiety
Professionals who attend this highly experiential training will complete hands-on practice of E.M.D.R. skills, and should leave feeling confident in their ability to begin using E.M.D.R. techniques in their clinical work with anxious clients. Specifically, this workshop emphasizes how to work with clients suffering from generalized anxiety, panic, and phobias.
Byron Clinic is an independent training organisation and is not affiliated with any professional associations or organisations.
Training Information
TRAINING OVERVIEW
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) skills promote quick and safe recovery from trauma. Additionally, straightforward and easy-to-implement modifications to EMDR therapy have been shown to help clients better manage and reduce anxiety, including panic, phobias, and generalized anxiety.
Neuroscience research provides insight into how and why EMDR skills and other exposure-based therapies may be effective. In this two-day workshop, clinical psychologist Dr. Jennifer Sweeton explores the neural bases of anxiety and anxiety treatment methods, including EMDR techniques, and provides step-by-step guidance on how to integrate these skills into clinical practice with anxious clients.
Professionals who attend this highly experiential training will complete hands-on practice of EMDR skills, and should leave feeling confident in their ability to begin using EMDR techniques in their clinical work with clients. Register for this event and discover how effective, powerful EMDR techniques can revolutionize your practice and faciliate trauma recovery!
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of this two-day training, participants will be able to:
- Name the five main brain regions involved in anxiety.
- Summarize the role of neural networks in anxiety development, and explain how the brain can create fear and worry even in the absence of distressing or traumatic experiences.
- Describe the neuroscience of exposure therapy (including EMDR) and name two ways in which exposure therapies can change the brain in the direction of health.
- State the eight phases of EMDR.
- Learn and practice “Future Template” as a part of Target Sequence Planning.
- Learn and practice desensitization of negative cognitions related to worry and anxiety.
- Learn and practice installation of positive cognitions.
- Learn and practice desensitization skills for fear and worry.
- Name two modifications to the Original 8-Phase Model of EMDR that are recommended for the treatment of panic, phobias, and generalized anxiety disorder.
- Describe how in vivo exposure techniques can be integrated with EMDR therapy using tactile or auditory stimulation.
- State how trauma-based anxiety differs from non-trauma-based anxiety, and how to work with both using EMDR skills.
- Explain why body scanning is an important EMDR skill, and describe at least one way to facilitate body scanning.
